Cardio
- ‘Mentions 2’ ⇒ End of Bed (anaemia, ECG leads), Hands (janeway lesions, osler nodes), Eyes (xanthelasma, corneal arcus, malar flush)
Respiratory
- ‘Mentions 2’ ⇒ End of Bed (accessory muscle usage, medical paraphernalia), Hands (clubbing, tar staining, tremor), Eyes (horner’s syndrome, conjunctival pallor)
- Neck = JVP → Trachea → Cricosternal Distance
- Auscultating → breath in and out through your mouth
- Auscultation + Percussion = 3 levels and axilla anteriorly, 4 levels posteriorly
Abdominal
- ‘Mentions 2’ ⇒ End of Bed (anaemia, jaundice, medical paraphernalia), Hands and Arms (leukonychia, koilonychia), Mouth (apthous ulcers, stomatitis, glossitis), Chest (spider naevi, gynaecomastia), Abdomen (scars, distension)
- Ask patient to cough
- Ask about tattoos or bruising
- Offer blood pressure in both arms, lying and standing (do for cardio, resp, abdo)
- Inspect arms
- Neck = JVP + Virchow’s Node (full lymph node exam)
- Percuss for shifting dullness (percuss away, roll towards)
- Palpate (light, deep, liver, spleen, kidneys, bladder, aorta) → Percussion (liver, spleen, shifting dullness) → Auscultation (bowel sounds, bruits)
Neuro (Upper Limb)
- If can’t elicit reflex first time → ask patient to clench their teeth
